Matthieu Venot

Matthieu Venot

Naturally creative, it’s only after he quits his music group, at 35 yeas old, that Matthieu Venot decides to engage in contemporary photography. Native of Brest, he starts his photographic work with the aim of showing the city from another point of view. When observing the series Ain’t got no troubles, the eye founds itself immediately drawn to the pastel colours and the lines work: the shape of a yellow building stands out on a blue sky, an ochre wall is pierced by a narrow window with turquoise reflections… Working only on days of good weather, this contemporary photographer uses the immaculate sky as a studio background. It is, for him, a way not to disturb the composition of his images: simple and graphic. The lines intersect and overlap, the shapes detach themselves from this blue background until we forget what we are looking at: a roof, a wall, a railing, a balcony.

It is this beautiful weather that brings power to the colors. Indeed, colour occupies a primordial place in contemporary photographs by Matthieu Venot. The photographer makes us forget the grey Breton and transforms our vision of the city to evoke images of California or Florida. The choice of these pastel colors is for the artist, a way to transmit, through his photos, the optimism that inhabits him.

Matthieu Venot’s contemporary photography focuses on architectural details. By adopting constructivist points of view, the artist manages to create abstract and geometric images.
